Eric Kerr, Licensed Acupuncturist
Book: Free Play: Improvisation in Life and Art by Stephen Nachmanovitch
www.freeplay.com/writing
I was first introduced to the amazing book while studying theatre in undergrad. Whether you’re a musician, writer, or advertising exec – this book will help get the creative juices flowing.
Art: Hilary Williams, prints and paintings
www.hilaryatthecircus.com
Hilary’s work is absolutely gorgeous. I own over 10 pieces of her work and I love them! She is able to truly capture the essence of San Francisco in her work.
Film: 9,000 Needles
www.9000needles.com
An inspirational documentary about acupuncture and stroke recovery.
A must see.
Hannah Sowd, Licensed Esthetician and Massage Therapist
Skin Care Products: sōwd: therapy for skin
www.shop.hannahsowd.com
I needed skin care products for my professional treatments as well to retail at The Blue Buddha: they had to be effective, contain natural ingrediants (no sulfates, no parabens, no artifical preservatives), and be reasonably priced. After doing some research, I decided to work with a lab in Southern California to develop my own line and sōwd: therapy for skin was born. 7 simple, effective, natural products that can be mixed and matched to suit just about every skin type.
Yoga: Funky Door Yoga on Polk
www.funkydooryoga.com
I’ve been practicing Bikram Yoga for 7 years and am convinced it’s why, in my 16th year as a massage therapist, I have very little pain in my hands, wrists and forearms. Not to mention, there is nothing better than yoga in a hot room on a cool San Francisco evening. The hot room can be intimidating but the folks at Funky Door Polk are professional, helpful and above all, have a sense of humor (plus the studio is clean: love that!).
Book: Tenzo Keyokun: Instructions for the Cook By Eihei Dogen
www.tinyurl.com/tenzobook
As a practicing Zen Buddhist for 9 years, I read many books on the subject but I always come back to the Tenzo Keyokun: I read it at least once a year. For me, this teaching by Dogen touches my love for cooking and my love of the Zen practice. The practical instructions for the “tenzo” or cook can be applied to pretty much any situation your encounter, in or out of the kitchen.
